James L. White, who wrote the screenplay for

Ray

, the acclaimed 2004 movie biography of singer Ray Charles, died of cancer on Thursday at his home in Santa Monica, Calif, at age 67.

Ray, which received a best-picture Oscar nomination, was Mr. White's only feature credit, although he worked on several unproduced screenplays.
