A woman was killed and four other adults were injured early Monday in a house fire in Montgomery County, officials said.

An attempt to rescue the woman was thwarted when a floor collapsed as firefighters entered the house in Lower Salford Township, Harleysville Fire Chief Todd Burns told reporters at the scene.

No firefighters were injured, Burns said.

The four adults who escaped the blaze were taken to Grand View Hospital for treatment of what were described as minor injuries.

Other details about the victims were not immediately released.

The fire in the two-story home on Skippack Creek Road was reported around 2 a.m. and nine companies battled the blaze before bringing it under control at 3:40 a.m., Burns said.

County and state fire marshals are investigating to determine the cause of the blaze, Burns said.
