Two groups receive funds for alcohol education

WEST CHESTER Two Chester County groups will get more than $65,000 in state funding for alcohol education, announced State Sen. Andy Dinniman (D., Chester).

The grants will go to Holcomb Associates Inc. and the West Chester Area School District for programs for parents to prevent underage drinking and substance abuse.

"Underage and irresponsible drinking affects all aspects of the community, but very often the path to prevention begins at home," Dinniman said in a statement.

One program, Parents Who Host Lose the Most, warns parents of the risks of serving alcohol to minors at parties. The other, Mothers Against Drunk Driving's Power of Parents Program, is made up of workshops to help parents talk to their kids about substance abuse.

Holcomb, with several locations in the county, will run the first program with Latino families in southern Chester County, the statement said, and the school district will run both programs. - Justine McDaniel
