Shore gets soaking; more rain expected into Tuesday

Parts of Atlantic County received an estimated three to four inches of rain from a storm cell Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service said. Pea-size hail was also reported in Hamilton Township.

In Salem County, a tornado warning was issued shortly before 5 p.m. after rotation was detected, but nothing touched down. The storm did drop half-dollar-size hail in Delaware's New Castle County, which sits across from Salem County.

Most of South Jersey, down to the Shore, should expect at least an inch of rain into Tuesday, said Mike Gorse, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. But more powerful storms could drop upward of four inches in some places.

A cold frontal boundary that has stalled over the region is helping fuel the storms, Gorse said.
