Fire halts SEPTA's Norristown rail line

A four-alarm fire ripped through a North Philadelphia warehouse early Saturday, prompting SEPTA to suspend service along its Manayunk/Norristown Regional Rail Line through the weekend.

A four-alarm fire ripped through a North Philadelphia warehouse early Saturday, prompting SEPTA to suspend service along its Manayunk/Norristown Regional Rail Line through the weekend.

The fire broke out about 2:30 a.m. at a warehouse on the 2400 block of West Westmoreland Street, in the Tioga area, officials said.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control shortly after 6 a.m. No injuries were reported, and the cause was under investigation.

Service along the Manayunk/Norristown Line, which was halted around 4 a.m., will remain suspended through the weekend, SEPTA announced Saturday afternoon.

A warehouse wall adjacent to the track area was deemed unsafe and must be demolished before trains can safely resume running, the transit agency said in a news release.

SEPTA bus routes 33, 48, and 60 were detouring around the area Saturday.

Transit officials were working closely with the city to restore service, SEPTA said.

Commuters were advised to check SEPTA's website, www.septa.org, for the latest service information.
