Cops: Doughnut shop worker fends off robbers with newspapers

Police say an employee at a Delaware Dunkin' Donuts used newspapers to thwart an attempted armed robbery at the store.

Police say an employee at a Delaware Dunkin' Donuts used newspapers to thwart an attempted armed robbery at the store.

Delaware State Police said the two suspects, one armed with a handgun, entered the doughnut shop at 196 N. DuPont Highway in New Castle at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday.

The duo confronted a 41-year-old male employee and demanded cash, police said.

The worker refused to hand over money, officials said, and instead threw several newspapers at the pair.

The employee then fled into the store's rear, while the suspects ran from the store without obtaining any cash.

No one was injured in the robbery attempt.

Police described the armed suspect as male, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall and 150 to 160 pounds. He was wearing tan pants, a dark jacket and shirt and a mask over his face at the time of the incident.

The other suspect was a man who was 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall and 150 to 160 pounds. During the robbery, he was wearing dark-colored clothing and a ski mask over his face.
