State funds pay for traffic signal upgrades in three towns

WEST CHESTER Three municipalities in Chester County will receive a total of $100,328 in state funds to update traffic signals through a new state program, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Monday.

PennDot has awarded $1.8 million in grants to 38 municipalities through its new "Green Light-Go" program that is funded by last year's Act 89 transportation funding law.

The program distributes state funds to municipalities to operate and maintain traffic signals along designated corridors on state highways. It requires a 50 percent minimum match by the municipality.

Uwchlan Township will get $28,250 to upgrade 12 traffic signals to LEDs. West Chester will get $57,078 to upgrade 26 traffic signals to LEDs. Valley Township will receive $15,000 to retime its traffic lights and make LED upgrades at the intersection of Lincoln Highway and Airport Road.
