City Hall to honor student editors

LANGHORNE Student editors at Neshaminy High School have admirers in City Hall.

The students, who last year voted to ban the word Redskin from their school newspaper, were recognized last month when Philadelphia City Council passed a resolution for "taking a stand against racism and bigotry," the bill says.

Faculty adviser Tara Huber was also recognized.

The resolution went on to say that "when our young people take a stand on an important issue such as racism and bigotry, they should be rewarded and congratulated, not vilified and denigrated."

After the decision to stop publishing the name of the school mascot last fall, fellow Neshaminy students tore up copies of the newspaper, and the editors became part of a national story battling with administrators about whether they could enforce the ban.

The students will receive a copy of the resolution early next month, they said.
