Montco golf course owners buy bridge from county

GREEN LANE The owners of the Macoby Run Golf Course celebrated Thursday when they took ownership of a bridge that the county had long failed to fix.

The bridge had been closed to cars since 1988, and to pedestrians and golf carts since 2011.

The McLean Station Road bridge over Macoby Creek, which was owned by the county but fully contained on the golf course's property, was built in 1884 and redone in 1961.

"That was about the last time any maintenance was done on it," said the county's first deputy solicitor, Josh Stein.

Melissa Peart, whose family has owned the golf course for 95 years, said the owners had been lobbying county and township officials to fix the bridge "for over a quarter-century."

On Thursday, the county agreed to sell the bridge to Peart's family for $7,500. - Jessica Parks
