Taney Dragons to open Special Olympics at Villanova University

RADNOR The Taney Dragons Little League team will be on hand for the opening ceremonies of the 26th Special Olympics Fall Festival, held at Villanova University starting Friday night.

For this year's event, which runs through Sunday, the campus will be transformed to reflect a Superhero theme of "Athletes Today, Heroes Forever."

About 1,500 coaches and athletes from 36 Pennsylvania counties will compete in events that include bocce, long distance running/walking, power lifting, roller skating, soccer, and volleyball. About 2,000 student and community volunteers are expected to be on hand to help.

In conjunction with the Olympics, a health fair in Driscoll Hall will provide free eye, ear and dental screenings and education for the athletes.
