POTTSTOWN The twin gray towers spewing thick clouds of steam from the Limerick Generating Station are impossible to miss while driving along Route 422 south of Pottstown.

The towers help cool a 600-acre nuclear power plant that provides electricity to some 2 million homes and businesses, according to Exelon Corp.

On Thursday, curious neighbors can get an inside look at the nuclear operations during the station's annual community information night.

Employees will be on hand to answer questions about engineering, industrial safety, radiology, emergency preparedness, and environmental impacts of the power plant.

Visitors can also tour the main control room.

Exelon has applied to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for license renewals to keep running its two reactors through 2044 and 2049.

The open house is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Visitors can enter at Evergreen and Sanatoga Roads and park in the upper parking lot.
