One woman died and several other passengers were critically injured when a tour bus overturned Sunday afternoon in Bear, Del., according to state police.

About 50 passengers were aboard the unmarked tour bus when it veered off southbound Route 1 near Red Lion Road and turned over on its side, according to Delaware State Police Sgt. Paul Shavack.

"It was a tour bus with no markings and we do not know yet where it was coming from or headed," he said.

The accident, which he said did not involve any other vehicles, occurred at 4:20 p.m. Many of the injured were taken to Christiana Hospital, but other hospitals were also accepting them, Shavack said. He said emergency squads and state police from Delaware and Maryland were assisting.

More than an hour after the crash, helicopters and ambulances were still transporting the injured.

No details about the dead woman or any other passengers were available. Delaware Online had photographs of the blue-and-black unmarked bus lying on its side in a wooded ditch as rescue workers tended to passengers on the side of the road.
