Summit brought students and employers together

BLUE BELL At Montgomery County Community College, 150 local high school students and 20 area employers met for the MEGA Manufacturing Youth Summit Tuesday to discuss manufacturing job opportunities in the county.

Josh Shapiro, chairman of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, described the summit as "in part educational, in part recruiting."

Employers and county officials wanted to inform students that job opportunities were available nearby if they chose not to attend college, Shapiro said.

He said another purpose of the summit was to dispel common manufacturing myths, such as that the work environment is dirty, hot, and unhealthy.

Montgomery County has 1,147 open manufacturing jobs, and boasts more of such jobs than any other county in the state, Shapiro said.
