BERWYN A 17-year veteran of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department has earned an award from the Delaware Valley Association of Professional Police Officers for his investigation last year of a home invasion, kidnapping, and robbery.

Detective Michael Carsello won the Legion of Excellence Award for Chester County from the association, which honors one officer from each of the five counties in the Philadelphia area. He is the fourth Tredyffrin officer to have won the award.

A husband and wife who owned a jewelry shop in East Norriton Township were held at gunpoint while men ransacked their Berwyn home looking for valuables the evening of Jan. 31, 2013. The men then kidnapped the husband and took him to his jewelry shop, where they forced him to hand over $1.3 million in jewelry.

The men released husband and wife unharmed.

Carsello coordinated with other law enforcement officers and helped link the incident to a multistate crime spree.
