Four Philadelphia police officers suffered minor injuries Sunday in Feltonville while trying to break up a scuffle among several women who had stabbed one another, authorities said

The four were answering a call for assistance from another officer in the 4600 block of D Street about 7:30 p.m., according to Lt. Frank Vanore, a police spokesman.

A melee had broken out and several women had stabbed one another in the street, attracting a large crowd, Vanore said.

The officers' injuries included a twisted ankle, a swollen hand, an injured leg, and bruises, police said.

They were taken to Jeanes Hospital and were expected to be treated and released, authorities said.

Police were investigating the matter and didn't indicate whether anyone was charged. No further information was available about the women involved in the fight.
