Kelly Drive section closed for regatta

A section of Kelly Drive will be closed through Saturday evening for a regatta.

The Stotesbury Cup Regatta will take place on the Schuylkill River today and Saturday.

The event -- the largest high-school regatta in the world -- means Kelly Drive is closed between Strawberry Mansion Bridge Drive and Fountain Green Drive through 8 p.m. Saturday.

Only those with permits will be able to access the regatta zone, according to Philadelphia police. Authorities say there will be pay gates for spectators to enter the parking areas adjacent to Reservoir Drive.

Police suggest using the following detours:

Inbound, toward Center City: Drive south up Strawberry Mansion Bridge Drive to Reservoir Drive, south on Reservoir Drive to Fountain Green Drive, west on Fountain Green Drive to Kelly Drive.

Outbound, toward Roxborough: Drive east on Fountain Green Drive to Reservoir Drive, north on Reservoir Drive to Strawberry Mansion Bridge Drive, north on Strawberry Mansion Bridge Drive back to Kelly Drive.

Detour signs will be posted, and motorists should expect delays.

In other weekend transporation news, SEPTA says shuttle buses will replace trolleys on the entire Route 102 line from 9 p.m. today through the end of the day Sunday.

The line runs between Sharon Hill and the 69th Street Transportation Center. The shuttle buses are needed because of grade crossing replacement work at Edmonds Avenue.
