Hearing set for cameras to catch speeders on Boulevard
A legislative panel will hold a Philadelphia hearing Monday on a proposal to install speed-enforcement cameras on Roosevelt Boulevard. The cameras would photograph the license plates of vehicles moving faster than the permitted speed and generate a ticket that would be reviewed by police before being mailed to the vehicle's owner. The fine would be $100.

A number of intersections on the Boulevard already have cameras to catch cars running red lights.
The speed-camera bill, sponsored by state Sen. Michael Stack (D., Phila.), would target the Boulevard for camera installation, but the program could be expanded to other sites in Philadelphia and across the state.
The hearing by the Senate Transportation Committee is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. on Monday in Room 103-A of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch Street.
