A gunman riddled a house with more than a dozen bullets in Southwest Philadelphia early Friday, wounding two women inside, police said.

The victims were reported to be in stable condition at Penn Presbyterian Hospital. A toddler in the house was not hurt.

The gunfire erupted about  2 a.m. Friday after the women heard banging on the door of the home on the 5400 bock of Hatfield Street in Kingsessing, police said.

As one of the woman looked through the peep hole, a bearded gunman in a black hoodie fired 14 shots, police said.

Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters at the scene that bullets ripped into the walls, furniture and ceiling. Ten bullets went through the door, he said.

The 40-old resident of the house was hit in the stomach and her 36-year-old friend suffered a leg wound, police said.

"It appears the shooter was intentionally shooting into the house, Small said. Investigators are seeking to determine why.
