Police identify man killed by Moorestown resident during reported home invasion

Authorities on Monday identified a 26-year-old Moorestown man who was fatally stabbed by a resident who reported he was the victim of a home invasion early Sunday.

Authorities on Monday identified the 26-year-old Moorestown man who was fatally stabbed by a resident who reported he was the victim of a home invasion early Sunday.

James R. Doyle was pronounced dead at the scene after the resident called police just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday to report he had stabbed two intruders at his residence in the 700 block of Hartford Road in Moorestown.

Burlington County Medical Examiner Ian Hood on Monday ruled Doyle's death a homicide. Doyle lived in the 400 block of North Church Street.

The Hartford Road resident, described only as a male, has not been charged with any crime.

Detectives were investigating whether a man who went to Lourdes Medical Center later Sunday morning to be treated for stab wounds to leg was connected to the reported home invasion. Anyone with information about the incident can call Burlington County Central Communications at 609-265-7113.
