Philadelphia police on Tuesday charged a 22-year-old woman suspected of driving into people holding a Labor Day block party in Point Breeze with nine counts of aggravated assault.

Monique McKnight was also charged with DUI and related offenses.
Police said McKnight told them she had been trying to drive her vehicle, a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer, around the block party, on the 1500 block of South Ringgold Street, when her brakes failed.

None of the eight people struck by the car suffered life-threatening injuries, authorities said. They were taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, and Hahnemann University Hospital for treatment of bumps, bruises, and complaints of pain.
