A 75-year-old man who was a passenger in a 2014 Dodge Avenger died early Thursday after the car slammed into a North Philadelphia building, police said.

The crash occurred about 1 a.m. on the 900 block of Rising Sun Avenue.

The passenger, identified Friday by police as Richard Gussman, of Drexel Hill, was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital at 1:47 a.m.

The driver, a 29-year-old woman, was in stable condition after surgery at Temple, Cpl. Lisa Bachman of the Accident Investigation District said Thursday.

Bachman said the car, registered to the passenger, was heading west on Rising Sun when the driver lost control and smashed into the building. Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the crash and relationship between the driver and passenger.
