Cops: North Philly man murdered his infant son

A North Philadelphia man has been charged with murder in the death of his 3-month-old son and namesake.

Police have charged Javine Barratt, 23, of the 2400 block of N. Fifth Street, with murder and endangering the welfare of his child, also named Javine Barratt.

Shortly after 11 a.m. March 20, police responded to Barratt's house for a report of a hospital case and found the baby unresponsive in a middle bedroom, authorities said.

Police performed CPR on the boy and he was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, where doctors resuscitated him. But after three days of fighting for his life, the baby boy lost his battle at 5:30 p.m. on March 23, police said.

An autopsy determined the cause of death to be homicide as a result of head trauma.

Barratt was arrested Tuesday and is incarcerated without bail.
