A 36-year-old woman was killed and two young girls were injured when their Chevrolet Prizm struck a trolley head-on Wednesday afternoon in Northern Liberties, police said.

The collision occurred just before 4:15 p.m. on Girard Avenue at Fourth Street, police said.

No one on the eastbound Route 15 trolley was hurt, said SEPTA spokesman Andrew Busch.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by medics, police said. The girls — an infant and a 3- to 4-year-old — were both taken to Hahnemann University Hospital. The infant, who was reported in stable condition, was expected to be transferred to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.

The older girl suffered scratches and a possible concussion and was also taken by medics to Hahnemann. Her condition was not immediately available.

SEPTA was using shuttle buses between Front and 26th Streets while the accident was being investigated by police.
