A young pit bull mix was in stable condition Tuesday after suffering multiple stab wounds and being left to die near SEPTA'S Fern Rock Station.

A dog walker found the 2-year-old female, named Woobie by PSPCA staff, Monday morning. She had been stabbed several times in her rib cage and was near starving, said Gillian Kocher, a PSPCA spokeswoman. The animal was eventually taken to the University of Pennsylvania's Ryan Hospital for Companion Animals.

Investigators from the PSPCA are asking for help from anyone who may be familiar with Woobie, has information about her owner, or may have seen someone dumping the dog near the train station. Anyone with information is asked to call the PSPCA cruelty hotline at 866-601-SPCA (866-601-7722).

"Woobie is a super sweet dog, even though obviously it has been through something terrible," Kocher said. "Even injured and emaciated, it's still able to wag its tail. It's the sweetest animal and deserves a second chance in a home that it deserves."
