Two children rescued from Delaware River in Tacony

Two children were rescued Tuesday evening after becoming stranded in the Delaware River under the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge.

Two children were rescued Tuesday evening after becoming stranded in the Delaware River under the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge.

Police said a 10-year-old boy slipped and fell into the water shortly before 6:15 p.m. The second child, 11, jumped in to help him and became stuck, according to investigators.

Both boys were able to hold onto a wall until rescuers arrived. Philadelphia police and Port Authority officers dropped life preservers into the river and pulled the children out.

They were being checked out by medics Tuesday night but did not appear to have suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.
