DUI suspect dies in Philadelphia police custody
A man arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence died suddenly after becoming unconscious at the Philadelphia Police Detention Unit, located at 750 Race St.
A man arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence died suddenly Friday night after falling ill at the Philadelphia Police Detention Unit.
Officers took the 29-year-old man into custody around 3:45 p.m. and brought him to the detention center at 750 Race St., police said.
He was found unconscious in his cell around 10:15 p.m., according to investigators.
Medics rushed him to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a little over an hour later.
His identity was not released Saturday, and the cause of his death remained under investigation.
