SEPTA train hits SUV in Bucks County

Service on some SEPTA lines was delayed Friday night after an outbound West Trenton Line train struck an apparently-empty SUV in Bucks County.

A transit agency spokesman said the crash occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. on the tracks between the Trevose and Neshaminy Falls regional rail stations.

No one was found inside the SUV, the spokesman said. There were no reports of injuries to SEPTA passengers or crew members aboard the train.

A SEPTA investigator on the scene received a report of five teenagers running away from the area at the time of the accident, the spokesman said. SEPTA police will lead an investigation into the incident.

SEPTA said the accident didn't happen at a grade intersection, where cars and trains normally pass. Instead, the crash occurred between stations, in an area where SEPTA has had past problems with ATVs crossing onto the tracks from nearby paths, according to the transit agency.

Seventy passengers were transferred to shuttle buses to complete their commutes. Trains in the area were continuing to operate on a single track as of 8 p.m.

SEPTA said passengers traveling on the West Trenton Line away from Center City could expect delays ranging from 15 to 20 minutes.
