Police are looking for a man who was caught on camera Monday stealing eight laptops from a South Philadelphia elementary school.

Surveillance cameras around 5:30 p.m. captured the unknown man wheeling a rolling suitcase into the Southwark School on South Ninth Street near Mifflin Street.

Once inside, the suspect allegedly went into a third-floor computer science classroom and took eight Apple MacBook laptop computers. He can be seen on video struggling with the apparently-full suitcase as he walks back down the school's stairs and toward the exit.

Police said the man initially fled into the schoolyard but, once outside, became startled and re-entered the school. He then exited through the Ninth Street doors.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-10-inch to 6-foot-tall black male with a thin build. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, black sneakers, a hat and a dark-colored coat with the hood pulled tight.

Anyone with information on the suspect or crime is asked to contact Det. Frank of the South Detective Division at 215-686-3013 or 3014, or to submit an anonymous tip by dialing 215-686-TIPS (8477), texting PPD TIP (773847) or by filling out this online form.
