A note prompted the evacuation of a Cape May County high school Thursday morning.

A note prompted the evacuation of a Cape May County high school Thursday morning.

The "suspicious" note was discovered around 10:30 a.m. inside a bathroom of Middle Township High School, the township police department said in a news release.

Investigators did not disclose its content.

Police said students and faculty were ordered to leave the school as a precaution.

K-9 units from the sheriff's departments of Cape May, Atlantic, Cumberland and Salem counties scoured the building, assisted by investigators from the Delaware River and Bay Authority and the Hamilton Police Department.

The property was cleared shortly before 1 p.m., and students were permitted to return and resume the school day, police said.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing with the Middle Township Police Department and the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office.
