Montco man accused of 'unforgivable act of violence to infant'

Bruce Long, of Lower Providence Township, is accused of physically abusing a 3-month-old infant, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office announced.

A Montgomery County man is facing charges in connection with what police have called an "unforgivable act of violence to an infant."

Bruce Long, 25, of Lower Providence Township, remained jailed Saturday, unable to post $100,000 bail.

Police launched an investigation earlier this month, after the 3-month-old infant was hospitalized with skull, arm and leg fractures, according to a news release from the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office and Lower Providence Township Police Department.

Authorities soon learned that Long, while tasked with caring for the child, "grabbed both of the infant's legs, twisted them, and caused the infant's head to strike a set of drawers at the bottom of a bed," according to the release.

"The physical abuse of such a young, helpless infant will not be tolerated in our community and those who commit such acts will be held accountable," District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said in a statement.

Long was arraigned Thursday on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of children, reckless endangerment, and unsworn falsification to authorities.

He is next due in court April 29 for a preliminary hearing.
