Man arrested for hit-and-run that killed woman in South Philly

A 59-year-old man has been arrested and charged in a hit-and-run accident Saturday that killed a woman in South Philadelphia, police said Monday.

Anthony Russino, of the 2600 block of South Jessup Street in South Philadelphia, was charged with involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, tampering with evidence, and related offenses.

Shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday, a silver Honda Accord traveling north in the 1800 block of South 13th Street struck three parked vehicles. One of the vehicles, a Fiat 500, was pushed into an Acura MDX. The Fiat was occupied by a Caroline Morgan, 59, of the 2300 block of South 15th Street, who suffered fatal injuries.

Morgan was taken by medics to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:36 p.m. The other parked vehicles were not occupied.

Russino got out of his Honda and attempted to remove the license plate before fleeing the scene, police said.
