Police are searching for a machete-wielding suspect who they say slashed a 25-year-old man across the arms and chest, leaving him in critical condition early this morning.

The incident occurred about 12:40 a.m. inside a house on the 5100 block of James Street in the city's Bridesburg section, police said.

Police said there was a disturbance at the home, and the machete attack followed. The victim was taken to Aria Health's Torresdale campus. He underwent surgery this morning.

Police are seeking a 28-year-old resident who lived at the residence where the attack occurred.
