A Kutztown University student is in serious condition after being stabbed early Saturday, Kutztown Borough Police said.

The 22-year-old male student, who has not been identified, was stabbed in the neck and ribs during an altercation at the rear of 81 Noble Street near Stimmel Alley around 12:45 a.m., police said. That property is several blocks away from the Kutztown University campus. The injured man was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where he remains in serious condition, police said.

Police do not know who stabbed the man, but several photos were taken shortly after the incident of two suspects as they fled the scene, police said. Police believe at least one of the assailants may be a Kutztown University student.

In the photos, one man can be seen wearing a sweatshirt that says "Kutztown."

Matt Santos, spokesman for Kutztown University, said this morning thatthe school sent email and text alerts to students, faculty and staff to notify them of the stabbing and to ask anyone with information about the incident to call police. The investigation is being handled by borough police, but university police will also accept calls, Santos said.

"We are cooperating in any way we can assist them," Santos said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Kutztown Borough Police at 610-683-3545.
