Cops: Man killed during W Philly robbery

A man is dead tonight after being shot during an apparent robbery in West Philadelphia, police said.

Homicide Unit investigators are currently questioning three men as persons of interest in the slaying, which is being treated as an ongoing investigation, Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

About 9:30 p.m., officers found a 29-year-old man shot twice in torso and leg on Market Street near 59th, Small said.

He was taken to the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead about a half-hour later. While en route to HUP, the man told police that he had been approached by three men, who robbed and shot him before fleeing the scene in a white minivan, Small said.

Investigators at the scene located a white minivan idling nearby, Small said. Witnesses directed them to the house in front of where it was parked. Inside were the three men currently being questioned.

Police are also currently reviewing footage from a nearby surveillance camera, which they believe captured something that could help with the investigation, Small said.
