Chesco toddler dies after getting struck by car in parking lot

An 18-month-old girl from Chester County died after she was run over in a Reading-area parking lot.

The Reading Eagle reports that Evelyn Steinruck, of Parker Ford, died Sunday night after she was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of the Exeter Friends Meeting House in Exeter Township.

Police say a group of children was playing outside the Quaker meeting house when the toddler ran into the path of a car that was backing up.

"The child was underneath the car after the person had backed up, and church members lifted the car off the child and pulled the child out from underneath," Exeter police Sgt. Steve Schaeffer told the newspaper.

The driver was identified as John Stokes, of Oley Township.
