At least three killed, 10 wounded in overnight shootings

At least three people were killed and 10 injured in a spate of unrelated shootings across the city overnight.

At least three people were killed and 10 injured in a spate of unrelated shootings across the city overnight.

Among the wounded were three juveniles and seven adults struck by birdshot when two men opened fire during a crowded cookout in Mantua about 9:50 p.m. Saturday. All 10 victims were reported to be in stable condition Sunday.

Witnesses told investigators the men fired a shotgun into the 4100 block of Ogden Street at least once, then drove down the street in a gold or silver four-door sedan and fired several more shots, possibly from a handgun.

A 12-year-old boy was shot once in his chest, a 1-year-old girl was grazed in the left side of her neck, and an 11-year-old boy suffered graze wounds to his left knee and right shoulder, police said. All three were taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

The adult victims included three women between the ages of 44 and 59, and four men ranging in age from 22 to 46, police said.

Police described the suspects as two black men – one of them in his 20s with a neck beard and tattoos on his arm, last seen wearing a yellow T-shirt and blue jeans; the second last seen wearing dark blue jeans and a black shirt.

About 10 minutes earlier, a 21-year-old man was shot multiple times in his torso and head near 37th and Mt. Vernon streets, less than a mile away from the block party. He died at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

There was no word on a motive in either shooting, or whether the two incidents were related. None of the victims were immediately identified. Police reported no arrests.

Two other men were killed in separate incidents at two different bars early Sunday, police said.

In North Philadelphia, a 25-year-old man was shot in his chest inside Johnny Ace Place, near 29th and Chalmers, around 1:50 a.m., police said. He died at Temple University Hospital about a half-hour later. No arrest was reported.

In Olney, a 29-year-old man was shot in his head outside Old Madrid bar on North 5th Street, near Fisher Avenue, and died at the scene shortly before 2:30 a.m., police said.

A suspect was taken into custody, but no charges had yet been filed Sunday. Neither the victim's nor suspect's name was released.

Investigations into all three murders remained ongoing with the Homicide Unit.

As with all homicides, the city posted a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Anyone with information on any of the incidents was urged to contact Philadelphia police.
