A 11-year-old girl hiding in a closet in an Evesham home scared off a pair of burglars when one of them opened the door and she screamed, police said.

The break-in occurred about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 500 block of Justice Drive, said Evesham Township police.

The girl, who was home alone, saw a man knock on the front door and then walk around to the rear door, where he forced entry, police said.

The girl ran to the master bedroom, locked the door and hid in the closet, police said. A short time later she heard the bedroom door being forced open and screamed when the closet door opened.

The burglar fled and police said a neighbor later reported seeing two men in hoodies running from the victim's yard.

Police searched the area with a K-9 unit but did not find the pair, who, investigators suspect, were looking for jewelry.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Evesham Police Department at 856-983-1116, the Confidential Tip Line at 856-983-4699.
