Crews battling Burlco brush fires

Fire crews in Burlington County are battling several brush fires as forecasters are warning of an increased risk for rapidly spreading blazes.

Fire crews in Burlington County are battling several brush fires as forecasters are warning of an increased risk for rapidly spreading blazes.

Pemberton Township fire officials said several small brush fires were reported Monday morning in wooded sections in the Country Lake and Whitesbog areas.

The fire department said multiple units, including at least one air tanker, were working to fight the blazes. Nearby residents should expect to see low-flying planes.

Smoke is likely to drift into neighborhoods, but the fires are not posing a threat to homes or property.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for all of New Jersey and much of eastern Pennsylvania for 1 p.m. through 8 p.m. Monday.

The warning means there's a high risk for fires to develop and get out of control quickly.

The increased risk is due to low humidity, dry fuels and strong winds, the weather service said.

Forecasters say outdoor burning is not recommended Monday afternoon, as any fires could spread rapidly.
