Delaware Valley College to become a university

Doylestown's Delaware Valley College will soon become Delaware Valley University, the school announced Friday, as the institution continues to expand its graduate-level programming.

Doylestown's Delaware Valley College will soon become Delaware Valley University, the school announced Friday, as the institution continues to expand its graduate-level programming.

The change in classification will take effect in April 2015, the school said. A college can earn university certification by offering at least five master's degrees and a doctorate.

Joseph Brosnan, Del Val's president, said the change was years in the making, and that it builds on the tradition already established at the 2,000-student school.

"This approval is recognition of how far this institution has come," he said.
