Man, 76, killed crossing street in SW Philly

A 76-year-old man died Tuesday after he was hit by a car while attempting to cross a street in Southwest Philadelphia, police said.

A 76-year-old man died Tuesday after he was hit by a car while attempting to cross a street in Southwest Philadelphia, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was struck about 4:50 a.m. when he tripped into the path of a 1999 Nissan Altima on the 2200 block of South 65th Street, near Woodland Avenue, police said. The 56-year-old male driver of the car remained at the scene.

The pedestrian was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead at 5:19 a.m., police said.

An investigation is underway.
