Body found in canal formally ID’d as Sarah Majoras

A body found Wednesday in the Delaware and Raritan Canal has officially been identified as that of Sarah Majoras, the 39-year-old New Hope bartender missing since early Saturday.

A body found Wednesday in the Delaware and Raritan Canal has officially been identified as that of Sarah Majoras, the 39-year-old New Hope bartender missing since early Saturday.

In a statement, Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony Kearns said preliminary results did not indicate foul play.

"At this time, all indications are that Sarah's death was a tragic accident," he said, adding that all of Majoras' belongings - wallet, cellphone, keys - were found with her body.

Kearns said the investigation was ongoing.

Majoras' body was discovered around 4:50 p.m. Wednesday near Bridge Street in Lambertville, N.J.

A boot belonging to Majoras had been found elsewhere in the canal earlier Wednesday, authorities said.

Joe Ujj, a local resident who had been spearheading volunteer efforts to find Majoras, said Thursday that a small contingent of family and friends had gathered at Majoras' house on Wednesday night to be with her boyfriend, Adam Baker, and her mother.

Majoras disappeared after leaving John & Peter's bar in New Hope. Security footage from the bridge into Lambertville showed her walking into town around 2 a.m. Saturday. She went missing after turning off the bridge, authorities said.
