Prosecutor: Asst. D.A. drank 8 pints of beer before car hit teen

A prosecutor told jurors this morning that a former assistant district attorney who allegedly struck a teen and left him lying in the road with serious injuries drank 140 ounces of Guinness Stout before the crash.

A prosecutor told jurors this morning that a former assistant district attorney who allegedly struck a teen and left him lying in the road with serious injuries drank an estimated 140 ounces of Guinness Stout before the crash.

Prosecutor Joseph McGettigan outlined the case in Delaware County this morning against Michael Donahue, who is accused of the hit and run.

Donahue's defense attorney didn't dispute his client struck the Haverford Township teen or that he left the scene but said he was not drunk.

Donohue, 32, is charged with aggravated assault, an accident involving personal injury and other related crimes.

The case stems from a Nov. 4, 2011 gathering of co-workers at Sligo, an Irish Pub in Media. Donohue left the gathering in his SUV Jeep Cherokee and then hit Jake Vantrieste as the teen was skateboarding across Township Line Road in Upper Darby.

Donohue, who was on his cell phone, got out of his car to check for damage and then left the scene, according to prosecutors.

He left the teen lying in the road with broken bones and "drove to another county to park that car in a garage," said McGettigan, who is with the attorney general's office.

"This is not a case of who done it," said Mark Much, defense attorney. Donohue was involved in the accident and he left the scene, Much acknowledged.

"No one will tell you Mike looked and acted drunk," he said.

The trial continued this afternoon before visiting Judge John Braxton.
