DRPA bridge toll jumps by a buck this week

It's going to cost more to cross the Delaware River starting Friday.

It's going to cost more to cross the Delaware River starting Friday.

The car toll for the Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman, Betsy Ross and Commodore Barry Bridges will go up from $4 to $5 - just in time for the start of the Fourth of July Holiday weekend.

Tolls are collected westbound only.

In addition, a 10 percent fare increase will go into effect Friday on the PATCO High Speed Line.

The Delaware River Port Authority, which operates the bridges and the commuter railroad, says it needs the extra money to fund major construction projects.
