Thanks to a surplus of snow, Philadelphia public school students are now being asked to report to school on Wednesday - a previously scheduled day off for pupils.

Weather permitting, course.

The Philadelphia School District has called three snow days so far, said spokeswoman Shana Kemp, but only had room for one day built into its calendar.

Students must attend 180 days of school in order for districts to receive state funding.

Wednesday had been previously scheduled as a professional development day for staff, but district officials decided to bring students in that day. Students should report at the regular time, and the professional development sessions will be re-scheduled.

If there's no more heavy snow, Philadelphia students will need to make up one more day, but that has not yet been scheduled.

Weather forecasters are predicting a messy wintry mix for late tonight into Wednesday.
