A South Jersey police officer was injured this afternoon when she was hit by a car while assisting in the investigation of a two car crash, authorities said.

Officer Jennifer Rauscher was one of several Gloucester Township officers who responded to minor fender-benders caused by icy conditions from the winter storm around College Drive between Blackwood-Clementon Road and Broadacres Drive. As the officers closed the roadway and waited for a salt truck about 9 a.m., a driver lost control of a 2007 Kia Rio on the snow-covered road, police said.

Rauscher, an eight-year veteran, sprang onto her police vehicle to avoid getting hit, but did not move fast enough, police said. She was treated for a minor leg injury at from Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

The teenage driver of the Kia was issued a summons for violating the provisional status of her drivers license. She had too many passengers in the vehicle, police said.
