Ex-City employee gets 2 years for taking bribes

A former City employee, who pleaded guilty to cheating the Philadelphia Records Department out of more than $600,000, was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison.

A former City employee, who pleaded guilty to cheating the Philadelphia Records Department out of more than $600,000, was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison.

Kelly Kaufmann Layre, 39, admitted in September that she took bribes from three people in return for 24,000 police and fire reports. The information then was turned over to services that sell data to lawfirms. Layre accepted about $185,776 in cash for the reports that she kept for herself. The scheme deprived the City of over $600,000 in fees, said a spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger.

In addition to the prison term, Layre was ordered to pay $600,415 in restitution and serve three years supervised release.
