Middle-aged man dies in N. Phila. house fire

A middle-aged man was found dead inside a Tioga home where a fire broke out last night.

The blaze, in a three-story house in the 3200 block of North 17th Street, was reported about 8 p.m. and was under control 25 minutes later, according to Executive Fire Chief Daniel A. Williams.

The fire apparently began on the second floor, but the cause is under investigation, he said.

Two people were evacuated, but the man, whose name was being withheld, didn't make it out.

The house had no working smoke detectors, Williams said.
