Phila. 7th grader charged with taking .380 to school
A seventh grader at a Fairmount public school brought a gun to class on Monday, Philadelphia School District officials said.
Administrators at Bache-Martin Elementary School, a kindergarten through 8th grade school at 22nd and Brown Streets, were tipped off about the weapon, according to Fernando Gallard, a district spokesman.
"The school quickly acted on the information provided, did a search of the student's belongings and discovered the weapon," Gallard said. They confiscated the unloaded .380 pistol and alerted Philadelphia police.
The student, a male, was suspended with intent to expel, as per state law.
