A woman who was awakened by a smoke detector escaped unharmed from the blaze in the rowhouse at 532 Luray Street in Feltonville, officials said.
The fire was reported at 6:02 a.m. and brought under control within 15 minutes, said Fire Department Executive Chief Daniel Williams.
Firefighters found the body of one man on the second floor of the house and a second man was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center suffering from smoke inhalation, the chief said.
A dog also suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to the SPCA for treatment, Williams said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
