Ex-cop sentenced for soliciting sex from boys

A former Philadelphia police officer who admitted soliciting sex from teenage boys was sentenced today by a Philadelphia judge to 11-1/2 to 23 months in prison.

Adrian Makuch, 50, pleaded guilty March 11 to unlawful contact with a minor for prostitution, luring a child into a motor vehicle and patronizing prostitutes.

Makuch, a 22-year veteran of the police department, the last eight with the Crime Scene Unit, apologized to those he solicited and said it was "an uncalled-for action. Had I realized they were that young I would never have approached."

Makuch has been in prison since his guilty plea when Common Pleas Court Judge Karen Shreeves-Johns revoked his $20,000 bail.

After he gets out of prison, Makuch will be on seven years of reporting probation, required to undergo sex offender counseling, and prohibited from any unsupervised contact with minors, the judge ruled.

Makuch was arrested and terminated in December after a yearlong Internal Affairs investigation. The investigation began after a 15-year-old boy from the Northeast told police that Makuch asked if he would pose for nude photos.

Makuch was arrested after he solicited sex from a 22-year-old undercover police officer posing as a 17-year-old.
